Eugene (Gene) Scheer Obituary

Eugene (Gene) R. Scheer, 86, of Moline, IL, left us on Friday, October 3, 2025.

Gene was born on July 26, 1939, the son of Clarence and Elizabeth – Betty (Lauffer) Scheer. Gene attended a one room school in Frankfort, IL. He became a hard worker, working on the family farm and remodeling his childhood home. He commenced his ‘trade’ education working at an uncle’s radio and communication equipment company. This led Gene to an engineering career based on avionics and arms technology. He graduated from University of Evansville in Indiana.

He was employed by the federal government as a civilian contractor, primarily with the U.S. Navy. He was based at the Naval Station in Ridgecrest, CA. He then served as a civilian at the Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, IL. We all thank him for his service to this nation.

He was an extremely passionate Pontiac vehicle owner, his list of rare Pontiacs was vast, always maintaining them to be the fastest of their class. He loved to be on the drag strip or at national Pontiac events, traveling across the nation to participate.

He was a founding, and an active, member of Blackhawk Chapter of POCI, based in Illinois and a 46-year member of POCI (Pontiac Oakland Club International). The chapter could always rely on Gene to document events, as well as having a vast knowledge of the Pontiac Brand. Gene was well known to other Pontiac personalities across the USA.

He was very proud of his house in Moline, loved to landscape and maintain the property. He was well-read about personal health and worked on maintaining his own health.

Preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Elizabeth Scheer, his daughter, Sandra Scheer Clark, and son Ryan Scheer.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Richard Scheer (Karen); grandchildren, Renzy Helland (Zach), Kylee Scheer, David Scheer, Zachary Clark, Gabrielle (Nate) Becker, Crystal (Andrew) Forsyth; and great-grandchildren, Adler Becker, Reed Forsyth, and Destiny Forsyth.

A special thanks goes to the staff at the Summit of Bettendorf for taking care of Gene.

Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan, IL, is assisting with arrangements and online condolences may be shared with Gene’s family at www.wheelanpressly.com.
