North Coast Ohio - 10/10 Update
The featured car for the month of October was Mike Ilija's 1962 Bonneville. The car was originally from California, but went through several hands before it ended up in Ashtabula, Ohio. It was there where Mike found her. It wasnt a beauty at that point but Mike could see that she had potential. After purchasing his machine with sleek lines, Mike took her for a drive. The Bonne began to smoke. Mike immediately knew the motor needed to be rebuilt. The original motor had been taken out. Mike found it years later in Nashville, Tennessee. He knew there was no mistake because the engine code was a perfect match. This 333 HP car with a 4-barrel still had a lot of work to bring her back to show condition. Mike decided to do much of the restoration on his own. Mike stripped the paint with Aircraft paint remover. It was then painted with Dupont Aquamarine Metallic acrylic lacquer. As much of his free time allowed, Mikes next step was to work on the interior. The door panels and dash were redone. The Tri-Tone blue interior sports a bench seat. The aqua-colored carpet adds a classic touch. The side panels and bumpers were added to the restoration list. The car also sports 8-lug aluminum wheels. Since 1995 Mikes Poncho has won sixteen awards. The very first award was from our NCPC Car Show. This past summer she earned the Gold Award at the POCI Convention in Charleston, WV. This stunning Aquamarine Metallic machine has great style and performance. Mike enjoys cruising around town in his beautiful Bonne.
