North Coast Ohio Chapter 8/11 Update
NORTH COAST PONTIAC CHAPTER (OHIO) The featured for the month of August was John Gerls 1966 GTO. When John was twelve, he went with his cousin, a graduating senior who was looking to buy a new Pontiac. The excursion was awe-inspiring. At the dealership, John marveled at the thought of HIS first car. Well, not long after John graduated he purchased a 1967 LeMans. It was a great running car and enjoyable to drive, however, John was in a terrible accident. Fortunately John was all right, but the car was totaled. Several years later, still having the need for Pontiac excitement, John decided to look for a GTO to purchase. His criteria was a 4 on the floor and it had to be between the years of 1964 and 1966. He went to check out the car. It was an impresssive Poncho. After the purchase, John drove it without adding any changes. In 2006, he decided to do a little restoration. He thought maybe just a rebuilt 389. Before he knew it, he was restoring the entire car. He purchased many parts from Ames Performance Engineering. Also, Paul from PG Autobody in Middlefield, OH played an instrumental part in his Ponchos fresh look. Some features include a Hurst 4 speed, 355 Posi-rear end, Ralley I Wheels, 4 barrel, and an AM/FM 6 Disc Changer with Rear Speakers. John enjoys cruising in his 2-door hardtop GTO. He attends local cruise-ins and car shows. In 2009 the 66 won second place at the All Pontiac Benefit Car Show, and this year the GOAT took home a First Place in his class. This 66 Tiger definitely growls with excitement. John has been the proud owner of this comfortable, stunning, Barrier Blue Poncho for twenty-nine years. On August 31st NCPC members gathered at Thompson Raceway Park for the 1st Annual NCPC Drag Day to put the pedal to the metal in their show car or their daily driver. Drawn together for the thrill of speed or just a burn-out here and there, those attending had a great time. Our Fall Social will be on Saturday, October 8th at Spennatos Italian Restorante.
