NORTH COAST PONTIAC CHAPTER (OHIO)Nov. 2010 Update

The featured car for the month of November was Larry Crookshanks 1967 GTO. Watching a friend restore his GTO gave Larry the bug to own his own Pontiac. The search began&. In 2001, while scanning the Plain Dealer, Larry came upon the perfect ad. Listed in the ad was a 67 GTO hardtop. Larry went with a friend to check out this newfound treasure. One look and he was hooked. What made the prospect of owning the car even more inviting was the fact that the car had the Ram Air engine option. GM made some mechanical upgrades for the 1967 GTO. The exterior was slightly altered. The front grille was changed to a chrome wire mesh. The side rocker chrome trim was widened and the fender emblem was moved onto it. Larry found this style appealing The asking price was reasonable enough; however, being a roofer by trade, Larry noticed that the roof on the owners house needed fixed. After several Poncho thoughts danced in his head, Larry traded repairing the roof plus a much lesser amount of money as the deal for purchasing the GTO. The deal was sealed, and Larry became the proud owner of a timeless machine. Some changes were made on the car. PHS listed the car as having gold interior and a black vinyl roof. The hunt began. Larry purchased the correct gold seats from a car buff in Illinois. Since the Ram Air didnt have the right numbers, Larry found the correct match in Detroit. He sent the dash and trim out to be redone. The improvement continued with a frame off restoration in 2005. This superb Cameo Ivory machine sporting a black vinyl hardtop with gold interior (code # 221) has earned many awards. She was a Double Gold Award winner at the 2009 Co- Vention in Dayton, Ohio. In addition, Larrys Poncho has won at many local cruise-ins and classic car shows. This 67 GTO is an awesome sight gliding down the highway. Larry admits that his eye-catching, striking, classic GTO has been a great find that he truly enjoys. At our November meeting, we had final nominations and the election for next years officers.
