San Diego Chapter News The SDPOCI had a display of classic Pontiacs at the San Diego International Auto show Dec. 27th 31st of 2006. Talk about ringing out the new year with a bang. The Auto Show is huge and had put out these beautiful brochures advertising the auto show. The display had a maroon 65 GTO, on the cover. They did not even realize that the car was a local car owned by John Erdman. When SDPOCI member Jim Thomson brought this to the attention of the show organizers they immediately wanted to get Johns GTO and a few more for a display. The display was billed as a Pontiac Muscle Car Exhibit and included Duncan Abrams 1964 GTO, John Erdmanss 1965 GTO, Jerry Beaudrys 1966 GTO, Greg Raymonds 1967 Le Mans, Steve Levin/s 1968 H.O. Firebird, Jim Thomsons 1968 Firebird 400, Terry Shrocks 1969 GTO, Alan Sugarmans 1970 GTO and last but not certainly not least was the legendary Jim Wangers ever popular 69 GTO Judge. Events: The SDPOCI caravanned up to the SCCPOCI chapters All Pontiac Show & Shine on February 3rd. in Laguna Hills. The day turned out to be a well needed beautiful day after a long period of uncharacteristic bad weather for So Cal. The main force of the caravan met at the local Starbucks and then picked up the rest of the group at the rest area above Oceanside. From there we proceeded north for a short hours drive to the show area at one of the local Pontiac dealers. We arrived just after 8:am to a ¾ full parking lot. We set up the SDPOCI base tent and proceeded to have a really great day. The lunch was provided by the In N Out Burger Truck, which did a spectacular job. It was a very pleasant day spent with old and new friends. As car shows go this was a very nice show and we will make plans to attend next year. Coming Up: We have an extremely busy spring and summer looming ahead of us this year. On March 17th, St. Patricks Day we will be showing 6 of our clubs classic Pontiacs in the parade. This parade is the largest St Patricks Day parade west of the Mississippi. It is a huge event and it has been our pleasure to participate in over the last few years. This year the parade is has gotten so large that all the car clubs have been limited to showing 6 cars per club. Our Pontiacs are a favorite of the normally packed crowd in attendance and we have taken 2nd place for the last 3 years. (Cant seem to beat those darn model As). Car Show: It wont all be fun as we working towards having our largest Spring Pow Wow Car show ever this year. We have once again been fortunate to get the Embarcadero North for the show again this year. This is the best venue for a car show in all of San Diego. It is directly on the San Diego Bay, adjacent to Sea Port Village and the historic Gaslamp district. All proceeds benefit the Fisher House Foundation which helps military families of wounded servicemen. This years show will be Sunday June 17th.
