1960 Pontiac Ambulance

Bill Poteet's 1960 Pontiac

The Story

1960 Pontiac Catalina

Current Owner: Bill Poteet

Formerly owned by Erwin Funeral Home in Trion, Georgia who purchased it new from Coyner-Bevington.

Comet Coach Company was based in Memphis, Tennessee. In 1959, the coach builder has sold its "Comet" trade name rights to the Lincoln-Mercury division of Ford Motor Company for use on Mercury's version of the Ford Falcon. Starting with the 1959 model year the former Comet Coach Comapny was renamed Cotner-Bevington after the company's two founders. They moved from Memphis, Tennessee a few miles north for Blytheville, Arkansas. C-B stayed in business through the 1975 model year, building only on Oldsmobile automobile chassis and truck based after about 1964.

Bill says: "I found this car at a body shop in Canton, Georgia waiting to be restored. It has been there for 7 years outside and the owner didn't have time to work on it so he decided to sell it. I bought it in December 2015 and it was delivered to me in January 2015. It went to a mechanic and was there for 8 months, and it was brought back to life. We buffed it, my wife and I put a new interior in it and then we started going to car shows. It looks good for a 56 year old car!"
